Today, QuenchSC announces their contestants participating in the Columbia, SC, first Miss Naturally Crowned Carolina to celebrate the power and beauty of women who are unafraid to express themselves authentically and unapologetically. The pageant provides a wide-reaching platform to promote positive images and dialogue about natural hair, while helping celebrate a spirit of scholarship, entrepreneurship, and authenticity in its communities.
Miss Naturally Crowned Carolina has also landed the good graces of the nation's first and most prestigious pageant for women of color, Miss Black America. The Miss Black America pageant was founded in 1968 by Philadelphia entrepreneur, J. Morris Anderson. Miss Black America helped in motivating the careers of several famous women of color, including Oprah Winfrey (1971 Contestant, Tennessee) Host of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Founder of Harpo Productions (OWN Network), Actor, and Philanthropist.
Miss Naturally Crowned Carolina will be held April 12, 2014 at the S.C Department of Archives and History. 12 finalist from Richland and Lexington counties will compete for the title and crown as well as for $1000 grand prize scholarship or non-equity start-up investment to the grand prize winner and $750 and $500 to the first and second runners-up, respectively, also to put towards their education or for starting their own business.
