SBA host Business Sunday for Current and Future Leader in Faith-based Communities - Sun March 30

Kick off Business Sunday with the Small Business Administration, the Minority Business Development Agency and the U.S. Department of Commerce on Sunday, March 30.  Business Sunday is a new initiative connecting current and future business leaders from local congregations and communities with the Federal resources they need to start and grow their companies. Business Sunday will help people access valuable technical assistance, grant information and other resources.

Join special guest, Melissa Rogers, Director of the White House Office of Faith-based and SBA Washington Metropolitan Area District Office's District Director Antonio Doss as he explains Federal resources available to help people start and grow businesses.

A tour educating people about embracing the natural state of their hair, hair maintenance and more,  Kicked Off on February 8, 2014.
 
Founder, Malaika Tamu-Cooper, has officially erupted a Natural Hair revolution! Starting in the West Indies, and, continuing through November 9th in Southern Maryland, this 18 city tour’s sole purpose is to educate not only women, but men too, in areas of hair, skin care, health and wellness, finances and more. With a plethora of vendors and live performances, expect a great experience.

The most magnificent and longest running expo occurs at the home base in Baltimore, Maryland, this weekend. (Malaika Tamu-Cooper’s home town). The Baltimore Natural Hair Care Expo is in its 11th year and will take place at the 5th Regiment Armory, located on 219 29th Division Street, Baltimore, MD, on Saturday, March 29th and Sunday, March 30th, 11am-7pm (both days).  

Enjoy food vendors such as vegetarian cuisine, The Land of Kush, who will host a cooking workshop; and live demonstrations by Head Wrap by Netfah for those desiring to learn different ways to wear their beautiful head wraps.

Aside from vendors, expect a dynamic speaker series and educators including Dr. Sislena Ledbetter, Consir Thot, Michael Imhotep and more. Well known Contemporary African-American artist, Larry “Poncho” Brown, will also be in attendance.

But, what is a Natural Hair Expo without a hair show? Project Natural Runway is scheduled to "set the place on fire" with a dynamic runway show. Along with the show, there will be performances from National Recording artist; Kindred Family Soul, a Stella Award nominee; Todd Ledbetter, and many other award-winning/nominated  performers from the Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia and surrounding areas.

The Creative Coalition Supports President’s Proposed Arts Budget
President Obama’s FY 2015 Budget Blueprint Preserves National Investment in the Arts at $146 million
The Creative Coalition today expressed support for President Obama’s proposal to preserve funding for the National Endowment for the Arts.  The budget blueprint released today by the White House would maintain federal funding for the arts at the existing level of $146 million for fiscal year 2015. 

“We hope Democrats and Republicans will come together this year to maintain a reasonable level of support for the National Endowment for the Arts,” said Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition.  “Recent government data show that the arts and cultural industries account for 3.2%, or $504 billion, of our nation’s gross domestic product.  Given the vital role that the arts play in our economy and our culture, it only makes sense to keep investing in the arts.  The NEA provides needed support to non-profit arts institutions that boost our economy, create good jobs, enliven our communities and enrich our American culture.” [Read More...]
